A Trip to the High Road

On November 11, 2011, Jacob and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary.  Since I had to work that weekend we decided to wait and celebrate the following weekend.  Being a Mommy and Daddy doesn't allow much time alone without Oliver.  So we knew we wanted to have a weekend getaway to relax and have some fun.

I found out about this B&B in Broken Bow, OK called Lago Vista.  It was only 3 hours away, which was perfect!  Not too far and too close.  The lady, Chandra, who owns the B&B also co-owns The Girls Gone Wine Winery in OK.  So we sent Oliver to Gammy and Paw's for the weekend and we headed to Oklahoma.

The B&B was beautiful, and we were the only guests for the entire weekend!  A quiet and relaxing weekend is what we wanted and got.  It was nice having the B&B to ourselves, but sometimes it did feel like you were crashing at a strangers house! Ha!

Chandra and her husband have an amazing B&B.  It is at the top of a mountain and you have to be sure you take the "high" road or you will miss it!  There is a pool and hot tub outside.  Inside is a full bar, a pool room and a movie room.  Every room has there own jacuzzi tub and balcony with a gorgeous view.  Oh and she makes an awesome breakfast!!

We got to the B&B just before dinner on Friday and after chatting up Chandra about where to go have dinner, we picked The Grateful Head Pizza Oven and Tap Room.  They serve pizza and beer...Jacob's two favorite things!!  The pizza was delicious and Jacob had buffalo wings.  After dinner we headed back to the B&B for some sleep.

The next morning after our yummy breakfast #1, we headed out to drive around the mountains.  It was so pretty.  The air was so fresh and there were people fly fishing eveywhere you looked.  It was also open weekend for deer season, so there was a lot of action outside.

After we took in the scenery, we went to a couple of gift shops and then headed to Idabel to go to the Museum of The Red River.  The musuem was nothing special but the did have a large gallery of handmade Native American rugs that were neat to see.  The main attraction there is the Acrocanthosaurus atokensis, the official State Dinosaur of Oklahoma. The most complete specimen of this 110 million year old fossil was recovered less than ten miles away. A full size cast of the skeleton, nearly forty feet long and fourteen feet high, is displayed along with natural history specimens from around the world.  It is huge!!

After the museum we headed to Papa Poblano's for a quick lunch before going to the winery.

The winery for definitely worth the trip.  We got to go on a tour behind the scenes to see how the wine is made and hear how it all started.  It was so much fun sampling all the wines and browsing the gift shop.

My version of the classic but overplayed feet in the sand pictures!
This view, a glass bottle of wine, and Jacob= perfection!

On our last day in Broken Bow had a yummy 2nd breakfast at the B&B and then lounged around a little longer before we packed up and headed home.  The lounging didn't last too long because I was itching to get back to our crazy life and kiss my Oliver!

We had such a great time in Broken Bow and we will definitely be going back.  Altough there is not a lot to do in Broken Bow, it is such a peacful and beautiful place to relax and recharge.

Happy 5th Anniversary to US!!
